REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS FROM ELIGIBLE SCHOOLS TO ESTABLISH, OPERATE AND MAINTAIN A SCHOOL INTERNET CENTRE IN KATAKWI DISTRICT

The Government of the Republic of Uganda has received a credit from the International Development Association (IDA) towards the cost of Energy for Rural Transformation (ERT) Project, and intends to apply part of the proceeds of this credit to payments under subsidies to Schools to establish, operate and maintain a school internet Centre in Katakwi district, under the ICT component of the project being implemented by the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC).

The Government of Uganda represented by Uganda Communications Commission now invites eligible schools from Katakwi district to submit proposals for establishment, operating and maintaining a school Internet Centre Katakwi district. UCC intends to award 1 contract for School Internet Centre in Katakwi district. To be eligible for this programme, interested schools must be “rural” based, in the sense that their place of operations is not located in a district centre area. Furthermore, eligible schools must be within the reception range of commercially available, medium/ high-speed Internet access.

A School from Katakwi district will be selected through a competitive bidding process as specified in the world Bank Guidelines: Procurement under IBRD Loans and IDA Credits, and is open to all eligible bidders as defined in the guidelines.

Interested eligible Schools may obtain further information from Uganda Communications Commission and inspect the bidding documents at the address given below at (a) from 8.30am to 5.00pm.

A complete set of Bidding Documents in English Language may be collected free of charge by interested bidders on the submission of a written application to the address below at (b).

Bids must be delivered to the address below at (b) at or before 17 July 2008 at 10.00am. Late bids shall be rejected. Bids will be opened in the presence of the bidders’ representatives who choose to attend at the address below at 7(d) at 10.15am on 17 July 2008
